Description
It is recognised that students completing placements in rural or remote areas can encounter significant expenses. These scholarships are intended to improve attraction and retention rates of Medical Scientists in diagnostic pathology laboratories in regional South Australia.
The scholarship program extends to beyond fourth year, with scholarship recipients being required to undertake a regional-bonded 12-month employment opportunity with SA Pathology.
Eligibility
Available only to full-time students in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Medical Science (Laboratory Medicine) at Flinders University who are not already scholarship holders.
Scholarships are only available to students undertaking the Professional Practice in Medical Science component, MMED4013A/B (18-units) or MMED4014A/B (18-units) of the program in a regional placement as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Areas 2-5. Not available for part-time (9-unit) placements.
Scholarships are only available to Australian citizens, permanent residents, or permanent humanitarian visa holders, or students that hold a visa that will enable them to work in Australia for 12 months after graduating.
Selection Criteria
Selection of scholarship recipients will be undertaken by a panel that includes the Laboratory Medicine Program Coordinator (Flinders University); and/or the Placement Education Coordinator (Flinders University); the Regional Services Manager (SA Pathology); and/or the HR Consultant (SA Pathology) and will be based on academic merit and the following criteria:

2. a one-page written statement setting out how they would benefit professionally from being awarded a scholarship
3. two referee reports
