Improving care for older Australians through research
Focusing on the issues that matter most to older Australians, from health and wellbeing to quality care at home or in aged care facilities, meaningful social connections, dementia support, and compassionate end-of-life care.
Our evidence informs how health, aged, social, and palliative care can be delivered at the right time, to the right individuals, under the best possible policies.
Our approach is grounded in evidence and impact, and is driven by three core pillars: research, advocacy, and capacity building. By combining data analysis, consumer engagement, and real-world trials, we are working collaboratively with government agencies, external providers, and organisations dedicated to supporting older people to discover what truly works to improve lives and shape better services.
The Flinders Ageing Alliance brings together 120 researchers from 13 teams and individual contributors into a transdisciplinary research hub, united by a shared commitment to improving the lives of older Australians.
For older adults receiving care in the community, mental health and wellbeing needs can often go unmet, as aged care staff focus on meeting customers’ physical and practical needs, often working within tight time constraints.
Researchers are improving hospital-to-aged care transitions to reduce avoidable hospitalisations and better support older Australians.
How can we know what makes a difference to care at the end of life? The CareSearch team at the Flinders Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying (RePaDD) has developed tools to make palliative care evidence accessible and usable across health and aged care.
