Our research is seeking solutions to some of the biggest unsolved questions of our time. We are looking at the sub-atomic and to ocean floors only reachable by submarine. We are looking through forests and throughout history – bravely pursuing answers no matter where they lie.
We believe in the power of science and engineering to help address challenges in resource management, environmental protection, medicine, health and more. We are building a better understanding of the world we live in to sustain natural environments, improve health and wellbeing and build technologies for the future.
Our mission is to change lives and improve the world.
Our talented researchers span across all spheres of science and engineering and bravely pursue solutions to some of the biggest questions of our time. With a broad focus on sustainability, security and health, our research advances knowledge, addresses real world problems, and promotes sustainable development. Our multidisciplinary research sections provide areas of foci for our research community and encompass the following:
We are aware that changing technology and environments are an increasingly important driver of our economy. Consequently, we are embracing and supporting innovative research to support future industrial and environmental needs. Areas of current research include:
The multi-disciplinary Institute for NanoScale Science and Technology undertakes research focused on four key areas - energy, water, security and health - by building on Flinders recognised strengths and enabling infrastructure in chemical analysis, chemical characterisation of surfaces, and surface topography and shape.
The Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI) is a cross-disciplinary network of researchers and clinicians who are developing and delivering innnovative medical device solutions and services.
Flinders Digital Health Research Centre is a newly formed multidisciplinary research entity, established as a cornerstone in Flinders University’s expansion in the health technology domain.
The Centre will provide expertise, innovation and leadership to ensure that Flinders University achieves national and international recognition as a premier institution for digital health systems and technologies research.
The world’s most precious natural resource, water, is under immense pressure and in Australia alone we have doubled our groundwater use in the past 20 years. Our researchers are leading the way in groundwater preservation and best practices to ensure there never comes a day that Australia runs out of water. We have a growing list of 12 partner universities and more than 15 industry partners joining our work to manage and improve groundwater systems and resources.
