Donor thank you afternoon tea
On Friday 4 April 2025 donors to education and research at Flinders University attended the Impact of Giving donor thank you afternoon tea. The event, in the new Health and Medical Research Building, was hosted by President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling.
The annual event provides a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to our donors, who are integral to our mission of changing lives and changing the world, and to hear from scholarship recipients and researchers whose lives and work have been impacted by philanthropic support.
Helen Mayer shared her moving story of raising children while studying medicine, along with health challenges. With determination and the support of a donor-funded Matthew Flinders Scholarship and the Dr Lesley Shorne Memorial Scholarship, Helen has managed to keep her life and studies on track.
Tackling youth loneliness is a big task, but it was inspiring to learn about the co-design research approach presented by Amber Brock-Fabel and Dr Ben Lohmeyer, that has established young people at its centre to drive real solutions - thanks to Early Career Research Seed Funding.
Guests also heard from Jenny Wightman who shared her personal motivations for leaving a bequest in her Will for a new Indigenous scholarship at Flinders. We are so grateful for people like Jenny who seek knowledge and drive change.
The annual Impact of Giving report was launched at the event, highlighting stories of impact through donor generosity. Read the Impact of Giving report here.
