So far the Matthew Flinders Scholarship has supported 2,364 students in financial need - many who have experienced long-term disadvantage.
Our students often need to support themselves during their studies with part-time and casual work—some doing as many as two or three different jobs to get by. However, during full-time practical placements students need to reduce their work hours - an impact that makes it difficult for them to pay their rent and bills and cover the cost of food.
The Matthew Flinders Scholarship is now focused on supporting students who find themselves struggling to meet their basic living costs during their placements.
Every day our financial counsellor receives a request form a student needing emergency financial assistance - a 12% increase on pre-pandemic levels.
With so many students in financial need, we are seeking your help to support our students through the Matthew Flinders Scholarship Fund.
Reducing the financial stress for these students will enable them to continue to focus on their studies.
For many, this will be an all-important morale boost that means the difference between continuing their studies at Flinders or ending their educational aspirations altogether.
