Lucy is a clinical teaching specialist at Flinders, specialising in Early Childhood and Primary Education Literacy and Language Development. She writes, coordinates and teaches on early literacy/language and relationships for learning topics. Her passions include studies into phonemic and morphemic awareness in the early years as a foundation for play-based early reading instruction.
Prior to working at Flinders University, Lucy taught on the Intensive English Language Program with the Department, specialising in trauma informed practice, cultural pedagogy and music education for early literacy skills. She has worked interstate in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains on the new arrivals program in schools and along with managing pre schools in both Europe and the UK, she has worked in inner city schools on community family literacy programs.
Over the last two years, she has been involved in the development of new topics for accreditation and involved external stakeholders in the early childhood and primary education literacy topics including the Literacy Guarantee Unit for the Department and SA Technical Colleges.
Lucy is dedicated to building strong relationships with schools and centres and to assist pre-service teachers to be continually reflective in their theory and practice in addition to being supported and confident as they go onto placements and later on into schools.
