Professor Dr. Md. Sipon Miah (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Gaibandha, Bangladesh, in January 1982. He received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) from Islamic University, Kushtia, Bangladesh, in 2006, 2007, and 2016, respectively. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded a three-year ICT Ministry Scholarship funded by the ICT Division of the Government of Bangladesh. He later completed a structured Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Galway, Ireland, in June 2021, supported by the prestigious Hardiman Scholarship.
Dr. Miah began his academic career at Islamic University, Kushtia, in 2010 and served as a Professor in the Department of ICT until December 2025. He subsequently joined the Department of Signal Theory and Communications at University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M), Spain, as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the “30 Postdoctoral Fellowship” research program. During this period, he was also a member of the Communications Research Group and received the “Teaching Excellence Acknowledgment” certificate for the course Simulation and Optimization of Communication Systems.
He has also served as a short-term Visiting Professor at Changan University, Xi’an, China. In 2023, he received the Best Presentation Award at the 9th International Conference on Mechanical and Electronics Engineering (ICMEE-2023).
Currently, Dr. Miah is working as a Research Fellow at Flinders University, Tonsley Campus, South Australia, Australia. His research interests include cognitive radio-based Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and deep learning for wireless communications, terahertz (THz) communications, optimization-based wireless systems, and massive MIMO technologies.
Dr. Miah has published more than 90 research articles in international journals, conferences, and book chapters, with over 2,035 citations and an H-index of 21 according to Google Scholar and Scopus. He is also the editor of the forthcoming book “AI-Driven Medical Imaging & Diagnosis,” to be published by CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group. He serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports and regularly reviews manuscripts for several leading international journals and conferences.
