Paul Cafarella is a Health Psychologist with expertise in behaviour change programmes such as chronic disease self-management and pulmonary rehabilitation, as well as mental health problems in respiratory and motor neurone disease populations. He has been regularly consulted by state and national bodies on these matters and presents often at national and international respiratory conferences on these topics.
Paul's current appointments include teaching roles at Flinders University of South Australia where he coordinates theTopic Pulmonary Rehabilitation (2004 - present) within the Masters of Clinical Rehabilitation and regularly contributes health psychology lecturesand tutorials to the postgraduate Medical and Nursing Schools (1994 – present).
Paul sits on various respiratory related committees and has contributed to the development and review of national clinical guidelines in respiratory medicine including the National COPDX Plan, Australian and New Zealand Pulmonary Rehabilitation guidelines, European Respiratory Society COPD Self-Management Task Force, National Pulmonary Rehabilitation Network, Pulmonary Rehabilitation Toolkit, National Clinical Advisory Group for Respiratory Patients using Oxygen and the Respiratory Educators COPD National Standards. He has also been South Australian State Coordinator of the Australian Lung Foundation since 1997.
