Dr. Raj Shrestha is an early-career researcher in the Prostate Cancer Research Group (Selth Lab) at the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) and a Cancer Council SA Early Career Research Fellow (2026–2029).

Shrestha completed his Medical Laboratory Science training at Kathmandu University and B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), followed by an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He earned his PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2021, receiving a Dean’s Commendation for thesis excellence, where he developed expertise in prostate cancer biology and metabolism, omics technologies, patient-derived disease models, and cancer therapeutic development.

Dr. Shrestha’s research focuses on prostate cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related mortality in men. His work investigates how prostate tumours acquire resistance to androgen receptor (AR)-targeted therapies and progress to lethal disease, using these insights to develop novel targeted therapies.

Before his research career, he spent over seven years as a clinical biochemist and medical scientist in diagnostic and hospital laboratories in Nepal, specialising in clinical sample analysis and biomarker evaluation and validation for disease diagnosis and prognosis and to support research.
