Dr. Rubi Cury is an academic specialising in sustainability and governance in sport. Holding a Ph.D. in environmental sustainability and sports policy, her research and teaching work bridges sport, sustainability, and community impact, fostering meaningful connections between academia, industry, and society.
Rubi’s teaching philosophy centres on education as a transformative social tool. She designs inclusive and engaging learning experiences that challenge students intellectually while cultivating critical thinking, employability, and leadership skills relevant to contemporary sport management. Industry collaboration is a cornerstone of her approach, enabling authentic, practice-based learning and enhancing student confidence.
With a background in judo that continues to inform her values of discipline, respect, and community, Rubi is deeply committed to continuous professional growth and reflective practice. She is an Associate Fellow of AdvanceHE (AFHEA) and remains dedicated to advancing teaching excellence through innovation, collaboration, and student-centred education.

My teaching interests lie at the intersection of strategic aspects within sports organisations, encompassing governance, leadership, policy, and marketing. I am passionate about equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex landscape of sports management. By delving into topics such as effective governance structures, visionary leadership, impactful policy development, and innovative marketing strategies, I aim to cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of sports administration. Moreover, I am committed to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into the curriculum, fostering a holistic approach that prepares future sports professionals to address sustainability challenges and contribute to the responsible and ethical advancement of the sports industry.
