Support for Indigenous education

With a long term connection to Flinders, graduate Erica Jolly CUniv holds the longest, unbroken record of giving to the University.

Erica’s connection to Flinders University began in 1969 when she embarked on a Master of Arts by research.

Focussed on equal opportunity, she currently supports an annual bursary for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander student studying an Education or Special education degree.

"For an Indigenous person to become involved in education requires a great deal of courage, and I want to support them if they do," says Erica.

"It is my hope that it may work to allow them to improve our understanding of one another."

In 1997 Erica's passion for the advancement of education at Flinders was recognised when she was awarded a Companion of the University, which cited her 'dedicated service as a member of the University Council and its committees'.

Her long list of accomplishments as an advocate of public education and equal opportunity is now extensive.

First donating to the University in 1993, alongside her current bursary, Erica has supported the Sophia Fund Indigenous Bursary, Matthew Flinders Scholarship for students in financial need, Flinders University Museum of Art and the Jessie Cooper Scholarship for Women.

We were grateful to learn of Erica's intention to leave a bequest to education at Flinders University. We know there will be lasting change because of her generous foresight.
