I am a Criminologist/Counsellor specialising in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Faith-based Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) at Flinders University. I am also an Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of South Australia.

My DFV research and publications center around CALD and Muslim communities exploring its extent, harmful attitudes/beliefs, risk factors, gender drivers, victims’ experiences with Australian criminal justice system, children’s experiences of DFV, mental health impacts on DFV, forced/arranged marriages, child abuse in Muslim communities, among others.

Currently I am working on several projects with Tually S in the homelessness and housing sector, as well as vulnerable children in the North.

I recently completed research with colleagues from Flinders University on the Independent Review of the operation of the paid family and domestic violence leave entitlement in the Fair Work Act 2009 producing a report tabled in parliament available here. Some notable works include reports for research on online safety for young people and forced marriages in multicultural communities that produced associated social media resource.

My research has also included child abuse and neglect in Aboriginal communities, international child sexual abuse medical reviews, harmful sexual behaviours, and exploratory research in child abuse and neglect in Australian Muslim communities.

In the past, I have taught and coordinated various courses in Psychology at the University of South Australia, Criminology and Humanities courses at Griffith University, and a Psychology course at the International Islamic University Malaysia.

I have co-designed two signature DFV programs for the prevention of, and recovery from DFV - targeted at survivors, Imams/community leaders and wider community. The DFV Upskilling for Imams & Community Leaders intensive training has been offered multiple times in Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide with great success since 2018. The 13-weeks inspiredNAFSi Personal Leadership Healing Program has been offered multiple times in Brisbane and Melbourne since 2016.

In recognition of my expertise and contribution to my field of expertise and its impact on community, I was inducted into the Queensland Domestic Violence Prevention Honour Roll and was a finalist “Women’s Empowerment” category 2020 WomenAcknowledgingWomen Award and International Islamic University Malaysia Alumni Community Engagement Award 2022.
