Professor Karen Reynolds commenced her research career through a Masters in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oxford, followed by research positions in the Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics at University of Oxford and the Department of Physiology at the University of Leicester where she gained her PhD. She subsequently worked as a research associate in the Leicester Royal Infirmary before gaining a lectureship at Leicester University. In 1997, she moved to Australia where she took up a position as Lecturer at Flinders University. She is currently a Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor in Biomedical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders. Her primary research interests are in medical device innovation, physiological monitoring, bone biomechanics and surgical instrumentation and training. Professor Reynolds is Director of the University’s Medical Device Research Institute, and leads the Medical Device Partnering Program, a national initiative supporting early stage innovation.
