The NT Clinical Academy is a Northern Territorian centric community of medical clinical educators in the NT, providing collegiate and professional development support for members, who share a love of teaching, learning and research.
We recognise the environments that our members work within, so our events are contextualised to the NT’s workforce and geographical environment with an emphasis on reducing isolation in practice.
The Academy looks to increase opportunities for collaboration with clinical educators to help learning in all settings, while events are inclusive and will be hosted regionally and Territory wide.
The Academy’s Terms of Reference can be found here.

The Clinical Educator and Preceptor Project ECHO network was delivered to build the confidence and skills of clinical educators and preceptors across the Northern Territory. Project ECHO is a well-established program in Australia and internationally, using a hub-and-spoke tele-mentoring model to “move knowledge instead of people”. ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) connected NT practitioners with specialist mentors through monthly virtual sessions, enabling participants to develop contextualised expertise and strengthen their capability as clinical educators.
Flinders Post Graduate Study in Clinical Education
This articulated suite of courses aims to provide health professionals with advanced knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality education, evaluate and improve learning and teaching, undertake clinical education research, and lead education in health service and other settings. The courses have an authentic and applied focus, in that learners are guided to apply evidence to local educational practices and processes, as a basis for improvement and change. This delivers direct benefit to the individual, their own students, and organisations.
Mentor Training and Upskilling
The NT Regional Training Hub delivers an annual upskilling program that offers the opportunity for participants to further develop their skills as a dynamic and effective mentor and/or mentee.
Professional development workshops include sessions on self-awareness, communication, and resilience in addition to how to source and to get the most out of mentoring relationships. For mentors, it provides an additional mechanism for you to share your knowledge and expertise whilst giving back to the local medical community. Throughout the program, participants are further supported with mentoring resources and a community of practice.
The content of the program was co-developed with local NT practitioners, the TELL Centre and the Pam McLean Centre (PMC), a leader in clinical communication skills training.
Supervisor Training
These workshops allow you to expand your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in workplace-based clinical supervision. The facilitators help you contextualize your learning and promote discussion of issues that enhance your confidence as an effective clinical supervisor. Workshops are available face-to-face or as a webinar series.
