Flinders Rural and Remote Health SA supports the Australian Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training initiative through the provision of accommodation support for allied health students.
Students enrolled in speech pathology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, optometry, disability studies and clinical rehabilitation at Flinders, undertake work-integrated learning placements at hospitals and health services throughout rural and regional South Australia.
Growing evidence suggests that health and medical students who undertake extended training in a rural area, and those from a rural background, are more likely to join the rural workforce upon graduation.
Many Flinders' postgraduate allied health programs are available online and/or via distance education. Others include professional placements in rural/regional areas.
These coursework and research programs are offered at graduate certificate, graduate diploma and masters levels - with the programs designed to articulate with each other so that step-wise progression from graduate certificate through to masters level is possible in most study areas.
Some postgraduate awards with a research focus may create a pathway to a subsequent PhD or research higher degree.
