I’m motivated by the chance to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, especially through speech pathology. I love the idea of helping people regain their voice and confidence, whether it’s after an injury or developmental challenges.
I’m also driven by personal growth—becoming more independent, confident, and capable in both my career and life.
The Flinders VC Scholarship would ease the financial burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies, placements, and getting involved in the community. It would bring me closer to becoming the kind of speech pathologist I aspire to be.
At the moment, I’m really enjoying my linguistics and phonetics studies. The intricacies of language—how sounds are produced, how they change across different regions, and how we use them to communicate fascinate me.
I love learning about the way speech sounds are articulated and how they’re perceived, especially since this knowledge is so crucial in speech pathology. It’s amazing to dive into the science behind something as natural as speaking, and I’m excited to apply this understanding to my future work with clients.
Choosing to study in Australia - and especially in Adelaide - felt like more than a decision; it felt like a quiet pull, as if I was meant to be here. When I first arrived, I was struck by the peaceful rhythm of life and how warmly people greeted each other, even strangers on the street.
Coming from China, where things often move faster and interactions are more formal, this openness felt both unfamiliar and refreshing. It sparked something in me - a curiosity to explore beyond what I’ve known. The cultural contrast made me want to understand the world more deeply and to understand myself in new ways.
Adelaide’s balance of calm and opportunity has become the perfect place for me to grow - not just as a future speech pathologist, but as a more independent, open-hearted person.
I’m a big fan of travelling! I love discovering new places, trying different tastes, and getting lost (in a good way) in new cultures.
Anything goes by Emma Chamberlain.
I would pick the ability to control time - whether it’s pausing, rewinding, or fast-forwarding. This power would help me manage busy days more calmly, give me extra time to prepare for challenges, and most importantly, let me enjoy beautiful, memorable moments for just a little longer.
