Hello, my name is Minh Dang from Vietnam, and I’m studying a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours).

What motivates me every day is the drive to become a better version of myself, acquire new knowledge, and give back to my family and the community.

The Flinders VC scholarship is a step forward in my personal life, education journey and career path. It provides important financial support for my education at Flinders, where I can gain useful and practical knowledge and experience from industry-oriented courses and a dynamic environment. It is also a recognition of my success, fuelling me to achieve more.

What appeals about studying in Adelaide?

What I find appealing about studying in Adelaide is its welcoming environment with world-class education and vibrant lifestyle. I also fell in love with its beautiful nature landscape and charming beaches.

Adelaide is also known for its safe and friendly communities and strong support for international students. The city is home to top-ranked universities and has abundant opportunities, especially in engineering and technology.

Tell us something about your culture that you are looking forward to sharing with other students?

I am excited to share the Vietnamese coffee culture and our coffee specialties with my international friends.

Sharing different styles of making a coffee cup can help me introduce the diversity of regional characteristics of different parts of Vietnam and local specialties. The ingredients and preparation process can be appealing to fellow students. For us, coffee isn't just an energiser—it's a way to connect, chat over morning café sessions, and make new friends.

What’s your favourite subject or project that you are currently working on?

So far, for me, my most rewarding subject is MATH1A. Even though most of the course is carried out online, the in-person tutorial sessions always appeal to me.

During the tutorial, I can meet and communicate with friendly and like-minded people. While I am doing the class practice questions, I can always ask for help from my excellent tutor, Jackson, and will surely receive thorough explanations.

Math is the foundation of STEM, and understanding it thoroughly is important to apply it effectively. This subject is very well-designed and structured which really helps me understand new concepts and refresh the old ones. I look forward to further exploring this interesting subject.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

As a child, I used to want to become a fighter pilot and control my jet roaring in the skies.

I watched a movie called Top Gun and was truly inspired by the cool and tough pilots on both the good and bad sides. Knowing that I need to become one, I need to have a healthy and fit body, so I have adopted a much healthier lifestyle compared to the lifestyle I was having back then.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not studying/working?

When I am free, I love taking a long-distance cycling trip to new places in my city. Cycling keeps me active, helps me clear up my mind, and relieves stress after long study sessions

For me, cycling is more than just a regular exercise, it is a way to discover new things about my city and meet new people along the way. By cycling, I can learn more about where I live and enjoy nature.
