What motivates me most in life is the belief that if you can be anything in the world, be kind. I'm driven by the desire to support others emotionally, especially those who feel unseen or unheard.
Acts of kindness, empathy, and genuine human connection are what keep me grounded and focused. The Flinders VC Scholarship has played a huge role in helping me pursue this path — not only by easing the financial burden of international study but also by affirming that I belong here and that what I want to contribute to the world truly matters. It’s given me both opportunity and confidence to keep moving toward my goals with purpose.
What I enjoy most about my degree is the practical knowledge and real-world insight I’m gaining into how counselling works beyond just theory. It’s helping me grow not only as a future professional, but also as a person.
One of my favourite projects so far was when we were asked to explore our own values, ethics, and identity as future counsellors. It was deeply reflective and gave me a clearer understanding of who I am, what I stand for, and how I want to support others in a professional and authentic way.
I chose to study in Australia because, while psychology is still growing and gaining recognition in India, Australia offers a more advanced and practical approach to the field. The emphasis on hands-on learning, mental health awareness, and culturally responsive care really stood out to me.
I also felt that immersing myself in a completely different culture would expand my perspective and help me grow both personally and professionally. Additionally, Australia’s reputation for being a safe, inclusive, and supportive place for international students made it a meaningful choice for my academic journey.
I love taking ocean dips like the true water baby I am, and I never miss a good sunrise or sunset; they just reset my soul. Hiking is something I really enjoy too —give me a trail and a view, and I’m happy. And when I’m not out in nature, you’ll probably find me shopping— it’s my guilty pleasure and, honestly, a form of therapy!
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihar.
Something I truly enjoy sharing from my culture is the spirit of “togetherness.” In India, we grow up with a strong sense of community — whether it’s celebrating festivals, helping neighbors, or simply showing up for one another without being asked.
