Teaching program
Flinders University offers a comprehensive Medical Biosciences Teaching Program, designed to provide students with a deep understanding of human biology, disease mechanisms, and the scientific principles underpinning medical practice.
Our teaching staff combine rigorous academic training with practical experience preparing graduates for diverse careers including health, medicine, pharmaceuticals, research and biotechnology. These programs encompass areas such as Medical Science, Medical Science (Honours), Clinical Sciences, Biotechnology, Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Biosciences, Master of Science by Research and Master of Surgery.
Teaching Program Director
Dr Lauren Thurgood is a Senior Lecturer and cancer researcher with expertise in blood cancer, proteomics and cell metabolism. She coordinates the Bachelor of Clinical Science, leads placements for Medical Science (Laboratory Medicine), and teaches haematology and transfusion medicine.
A Flinders graduate, Lauren has held several competitive research fellowships and grants, including the Beat Cancer Early Career Fellowship, and is an active member of both the Flinders Honours Committee and Biofilm Research and Innovation Consortium.
