What do you do, day-to-day?
I respond to emails, phone and personal enquiries from students, organise activities for students, organise Meet & Greet services for newly arriving international students, update web content and provide project support.
I really enjoy having contact with students who visit the Flinders International office; to help answer their questions or refer them to support services inside and outside the university.
What’s the best part of your job?
Meeting students from all over the world and seeing the smiles on students’ faces when I have been able to assist them.
During more than 13 years with International Student Services I have had the pleasure of welcoming students to Flinders for a second and even third time when they return to the university to complete further studies. I also love the fact that I am part of a very multicultural team.
Where's your favourite spot on campus?
The Pendopo on the Bedford Park campus which houses the gamelan, a traditional Indonesian instrument ensemble. Many international students have had the opportunity to try out the instruments during ISS-organised events and learn more about this ancient music form. The Pendopo is surrounded by trees and you can sit outside on a bench enjoying a quieter moment on campus. I have been lucky on multiple occasions to spot a koala on one of the trees.
What’s your Adelaide recommendation?
Explore Morialta Conservation Park located north-east of the City centre to enjoy bushwalking and great views or go for a walk or bike ride along the River Torrens Linear Park Trail.
Do you have any advice for prospective international students?
Try and keep focused on your studies during your time at Flinders, but don’t forget to make the best of your time in Adelaide. By making new friends at uni and in the wider community, you can enrich your life and grow as a person.
