Choose your program: Exchange or Study Abroad

Discover the two pathways to study at Flinders University - the Student Exchange and Study Abroad programs. Both options provide the chance to immerse yourself in our vibrant campus community while furthering your academic and personal growth.

Student Exchange Program

Your university has an exchange partnership with Flinders University. Check with your home university for their eligibility requirements.

Eligibility:

Be nominated by your home university.
Your GPA is 4.0/7.0 (pass) or equivalent.
If English is not your first language, you meet our level one English language requirements

Tuition fees:

You will pay tuition fees to your home university.

Please note, tuition fees do not include field trips, lecture notes, stationery, text books and course materials.

Study Abroad Program

If your university does not have an exchange agreement with Flinders University, you can still join us through the Study Abroad program. You'll pay tuition fees directly to Flinders.

Eligibility:

Be currently enrolled at an overseas university.
Your GPA is 4.0/7.0 (pass) or equivalent.
If English is not your first language, you meet our level one English language requirements.

Tuition fees (One Semester):

The study abroad fee covers tuition, administrative costs, one academic transcript on completion and laboratory fees.

A$7,425.00 for 3 topics (13.5 units) for 2026
A$9,900 for 4 topics (18 units) for 2026

Please note, tuition fees do not include field trips, lecture notes, stationery, text books and course materials.

How to apply

The exchange/study abroad application portal opens twice each year for a two‑week period:

Semester 1 (February - June) applications opens 1 October and closes 15 October
Semester 2 (July - November) applications opens 1 April and closes 15 April

After you apply

Once your application has been submitted, the Global Experience team at Flinders will review your application after the application deadline. We will follow up with you via the email address provided in your application.

Please note that we may request additional documentation as part of the assessment process. Be sure to regularly check your inbox and junk/spam folder to ensure you don’t miss any important updates from us.

Accepting your offer

If your exchange or study abroad application to Flinders University is successful, you will receive an Offer of Admission. Your offer letter will be sent to the email address you registered in your application.

Choosing topics for your study

Before you select topics to study at Flinders

Always consult with your home university course advisor for the topics most relevant to your degree for maximum credit transfer.
The prescribed full-time study load is 13.5 units to 18 units. Most home universities require their students to undertake 18 units or 4 topics while at Flinders so you are encouraged to check with them.
Select the appropriate topic level. Normally, first year level topics are numbered 1000-1999, second year level topics from 2000-2999, 3000-3999 for third year level, and 4000-level topics are for fourth year Honours degree students. Topics numbered from 5000 and up are for postgraduate students and are intended for students who have completed a bachelor degree.
Some topics have prerequisites or assumed knowledge. Please consult with your home university to ensure you have the background necessary to read topics with prerequisites or assumed knowledge.
Select the topics that are available in the semester of your program at Flinders. Semester 1 is from February to June, and Semester 2 is from July to November.
Medicine, nursing, midwifery, and drama topics requiring audition, are not available to exchange and study abroad students.

How to select topics

We will assist you to select topics by:

providing you with a topic approval form to complete
contacting the relevant topic coordinator for you, to request approval for enrolment
advising you of approved topics (note, that some topics may not be approved and you will need to select alternatives).

You will then confirm the topics you want to study. After this confirmation we will send a request to Enrolment Services for these topics to be included in your study plan. You will receive an email advising this request has been lodged.

You will then be advised when to start enrolling in topics and registering for classes.
