Have you studied at another university, TAFE, or registered training provider?

You may be able to count that work toward your Flinders degree - saving time, reducing costs, and letting you start further ahead. Credit transfer formally recognises your previous study and adjusts your enrolment, so you don't repeat work you've already completed.

In plain terms: if you've already learned this material, you don't need to pay for it or sit through it again. We assess your prior study against your Flinders course and credit what aligns. Note that credit eligibility is assessed separately from admission — you still need to meet standard entry requirements.

Studied at a recognised Australian or overseas university
TEQSA-registered providers qualify. Overseas institutions assessed against Australian tertiary standards.
Hold a TAFE or VET qualification at Certificate IV or above
Minimum credit applies even if your study area differs from your Flinders course.
Completed relevant topics at Flinders previously
Transferring between Flinders courses - credit may apply automatically.
Have relevant prior work or life experience
Recognition of prior learning may be assessed for eligible applicants.

From when you studied - not the current published version.
Course structure information
Topics covered, contact hours, assessment methods, and program duration.
Grading key - plus translations if not in English
Required for overseas transcripts. Certified translation only if specifically requested.

Types of credit

We'll determine which type applies when we assess your application and explain it clearly in your outcome letter.

_SPECIFIED

Direct match

Your previous topic aligns directly with a specific Flinders topic. It replaces that topic in your degree.

Sanjay's interstate Bachelor of Arts (BA) topics matched Flinders BA topics directly - he received specified credit for each one.

_UNSPECIFIED

General credit

Your previous study is academically equivalent but doesn't map to a specific Flinders topic. Still counts toward your degree.

Prior study in a related field with no exact Flinders equivalent - unspecified credit awarded toward electives.

_BLOCK

Program credit

A completed program such as a diploma or major is equivalent to one at Flinders and credited as a block.

With John's Diploma of Nursing, he received up to 36 units toward the Bachelor of Nursing - one full year.

How to credit transfer for specific students.

Current domestic students

Current Flinders students can apply for credit transfer any time using the Ask Flinders webform.

You should aim to lodge your application no later than two weeks prior to the start of the relevant semester/teaching period. If you do not lodge your application by then, it may not be processed in time for your enrolment.

You will receive an acknowledgement email confirming your application has been received. You can monitor the progress of your request using the 'My Support' tab in Ask Flinders. Once your credit has been assessed, your College will contact you with the outcome and provide you with advice on what this means for your studies.

Future domestic students

Prospective students can enquire about their credit eligibility by emailing askflinders@flinders.edu.au.

Prior Flinders Studies

If the credit you are seeking is based on previous Flinders studies, please provide your student ID and the topics or course that you completed at Flinders.

Non-Flinders Studies

If the credit you are seeking is based on non-Flinders studies, please attach or include the following documents:

Complete Official Academic Transcripts* and an explanation of the grading system
Detailed descriptions/learning outcomes for the topics/subjects completed (syllabus) at the time when the study occurred
Course outline explaining the structure of the program including topics covered, contact hours, duration of the program, and methods of assessment
Any prior correspondence you may have received from Flinders regarding this credit application.

Once you have submitted your credit application, your College will respond after they have assessed any potential credit you may receive. If you are made an offer to Flinders and accept, you will need to contact your College to have your credit formally applied to your course. Please note, potential credit eligibility is not grounds for being made an offer at Flinders University. You will still need to apply and be assessed against the course admission requirements.

*Documents must be originals, certified true copies or digital documents shared directly through the My eQuals platform. Certified copies must bear an original signature and certification that the document is a true copy of the original. This can be obtained from a University Registrar or a Justice of the Peace.

International students

When to apply

International students should declare any potential eligible credit with their application to Flinders. This is so we can assess your credit eligibility at the time of offer and you can be provided with an accurate study planner and Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) length.

Please note

Credit may reduce the total duration of your course. If this is the case, Flinders International will issue you a shorter CoE. You are responsible for ensuring the reduced study duration meets the Australian Study Requirement for any future Australian visa you may wish to apply for. Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website for further details.

Students who have been offered a Flinders Go Beyond Academic Scholarship, Alumni Scholarship or International High School Scholarship Australia, please be advised the conditions of your scholarship do not allow you to receive credit after you have been made an offer at Flinders. If you apply for and accept credit after you have been admitted, your scholarship will be revoked.

How to apply

If you wish to be considered for credit transfer, you need to indicate this when submitting your application for admission into your preferred course.

Please ensure you provide in your application:

An official transcript or results from previous studies;
A copy of the subject description for each subject at the time studies were taken (including course description, number of contact hours, assessment method, language of instruction and final academic score; and
Translations, if subject descriptions are in a language other than English.

When we receive your application, we will compare the level and content of topics you have already completed with the syllabus and learning outcomes of topics in the Flinders’ course you wish to undertake. You will be assessed for the maximum credit you are eligible for. You will be advised of the amount of credit you are eligible for in your Offer Letter.

Admitted students

Students who have been admitted to a course can apply for credit via the Ask Flinders webform. Choose “Enrolments” as the area.

If you are applying for credit for study completed outside of Flinders University, you will need to attach transcripts, subject descriptions and translations as described above.

Exchange and Study Abroad students

If you are going on exchange and studying at an overseas university, you must have your overseas topics approved for credit by your College prior to your departure from Australia. Exchange applicants must consult with their College before lodging a Flinders outgoing exchange application.

Your College will arrange for your overseas units to be approved for credit towards your Flinders degree and approve your study plan. Full instructions can be found on the Flinders exchange application page.
