Flinders University’s Law School has taken another step toward future-focused legal education with the adoption of Lexis+ Protégé, LexisNexis’ new AI-powered legal research platform.
Staff now have access to the platform, with students gaining access from Semester 2 2026.
As artificial intelligence continues to transform the legal profession, integrating advanced research technology into legal education is no longer optional, it’s essential. By embedding AI tools used in contemporary legal practice, Flinders Law is ensuring graduates are prepared for the realities of a rapidly evolving profession.
Legal practice is changing. From research automation to predictive analytics and digital case preparation, AI is reshaping how lawyers work. The adoption of Lexis+ Protégé strengthens Flinders Law’s commitment to innovation and ensures students develop the digital literacy, ethical awareness, and critical thinking skills required in modern legal environments.
Rather than viewing AI as a disruption, Flinders Law sees it as an opportunity, a tool that, when used responsibly, enhances legal reasoning and professional capability.
Flinders has a strong track record of innovation in teaching and learning, with a curriculum that emphasises social justice, global perspectives, and emerging legal challenges. Introducing AI-powered research tools aligns with the University’s commitment to preparing graduates who are adaptable, forward-thinking, and industry-ready.
Not all Australian law schools have yet implemented AI-integrated legal research platforms at scale, positioning Flinders among early adopters in this space.
Professional development and training will accompany the rollout to ensure both staff and students can confidently and ethically use the platform. As AI continues to evolve, Flinders Law remains committed to engaging critically with technology, equipping students not just to use AI tools, but to understand their implications for access to justice, professional responsibility, and the future of the legal system.
We offer appointments with our prospective student team to discuss career options, pathways, and course and entry requirements.
