From cricket to football to soccer - Australia’s sporting passion runs deep. But today’s sporting industry is about more than just performance on the field.
It’s about building vibrant, inclusive communities, responding to rapid technological change, and engaging a new generation of fans. At Flinders University, our sport management and active recreation programs are helping students step into the future of sport with confidence, skills and connections.
Flinders University hosted The Future of Fandom, an engaging panel event featuring sport management expert Professor Adam Karg, Director of the Sport Innovation and Technology Lab at Deakin University. Professor Karg was joined by senior executives from Port Adelaide Football Club, Adelaide United Football Club, and the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA)—all education partners in Flinders' growing suite of sport management programs.
Together, they discussed the big disruptors in sport today: generational change, tech innovation, and the growing social role of sport. The message was clear: sporting organisations are evolving fast—and they need skilled, passionate professionals to lead the way.
"Sporting clubs are increasingly involved in making a social impact, not just playing the game. This is creating exciting opportunities—but also new challenges—for future managers and leaders"
- Professor Adam Karg
What sets Flinders apart? We take students out of the classroom and into the heart of the action.
Our new Diploma of Sports Management courses—developed in partnership with Port Adelaide, Adelaide United, and SACA—are delivered in iconic venues like Alberton Oval, Adelaide Oval, and Flinders City Campus.
These immersive programs are the perfect launch pad for students who want a front-row seat to the business of sport, and a clear pathway into the Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) at Flinders.
"I’ve loved every minute of the diploma, now I’m looking at continuing my studies with a sports management degree."
- Thisama Kottahachchi
