Anthony worked as a storyboard artist on Mortal Kombat, working with the director of the film and planning out the sequence of shots as he interpreted them from the script.
'A storyboard is the first visual representation of the movie.' That was a lesson taught to me by my Animation lecturer Greg Holdfeld whom I had the opportunity to work alongside during my time on the film.'
In conjunction with CDW Studios, Flinders Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) offers 2D and 3D animation, concept art, game art, VFX, entertainment design along with a host of skills to prepare you for a range of creative occupations in film, television, gaming, animation and digital design.
Taught by leading experts in the field, the technical and practical education Anthony received was in-line with industry expectations, ensuring he could step straight from the university into a dream role.
'The education and workload I received while studying at Flinders and CDW Studios allowed me to confidently perform at a standard and rate that was acceptable in the industry. I wasn't stunned or felt overwhelmed with the amount of work I had to produce. I was more taken aback at the quality of work I was supporting.'
Another surprise for Anthony was the fact that despite the scale of the production, the basics were similar to other, smaller productions. The skills he learned with Flinders and CDW Studios fully prepared him for the workplace.
'I learned so much while on the project. Being able to work with the director, and heads of departments was a huge opportunity and one that I was very much aware of. I took a lot of information in while I was on the job and have been able to apply those lessons to further jobs since my time on Mortal Kombat.'
Anthony’s experience on Mortal Kombat helped him gain storyboarding work on other major projects, including Zac Efron's upcoming film, Gold, and a new thriller series called The Tourist. He is also following his dream of establishing his own studio with business partners. The Golden Age Studios are currently developing an IP that crosses over several entertainment mediums, including card games, toys, animation, and video games.
Anthony’s time with Flinders and CDW studios, and his subsequent successes are certainly leading towards his own golden future.
'The opportunities provided to me over the years each had different learning outcomes. I am very big on learning and bettering myself (both artistically and personally), and that is something I hope to retain throughout my career.'
