What you will study

You will gain the competencies to navigate Defence-centric frameworks, control mechanisms, and governance standards. Key learning outcomes include:

Governance Concepts: Compare key cybersecurity governance concepts across information security, IT, and operational technology (OT) within the Defence environment.
ISMS Implementation: Apply Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and ISO standards to Defence systems, including document suite requirements and authorisation processes.
Risk Assessment: Conduct Defence-centric risk and vulnerability assessments, evaluating impact on mission capability, safety, and airworthiness.
Maturity Models: Explain and implement cybersecurity maturity models relevant to organisational resilience.
Supply Chain Security: Evaluate information assurance approaches and manage supply chain risks in line with ACSC guidance.
Classification: Analyse and apply information classification appropriate for Defence (PSPF and ISM practices).
Future Impacts: Critically analyse the impact of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), on Defence cybersecurity.

This topic is equivalent to a postgraduate level topic or AQF Level 8

Introduction to Cybersecurity Governance

Roles in Defence (ASD, DDG, 462SQN) and the CIA triad.

Information Security Management Systems (ISMS)

ISO/IEC 27001:2022 alignment and the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF).

Defence Security Classification Levels

PSPF and ISM alignment.

Risk Assessment

Threat modelling and risk prioritisation.

Risk Management & Threat Analysis

Consequence analysis (Mission, Operations) and airworthiness safety factors.

Cyber Maturity Models

C2M2 and Defence cyber maturity.

Cyber Assurance

System hardening and supply chain risk management.

Contingency Planning

Incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity.

Future Impacts on Defence Cybersecurity

AI, data management, and automated risk detection.

Assessment

Participants will be assessed through professional application tasks, quizzes, and case studies relevant to their work environment.
