Empower diverse learners and create truly inclusive classrooms with Flinders' Inclusive Education microcredential. Designed for teachers and allied health professionals, this program equips you with the latest strategies to support students with diverse learning needs in education settings.
In just 12 weeks, you will:
Join a network of education professionals committed to inclusive teaching practices and making a lasting difference.
Inclusive and Specialised Education is a complex and constantly evolving field. This topic provides an overview of contemporary and topical issues through a critical examination of the research literature. Students develop proficiency with key terminology, legislation, policies and foundational concepts, and examine a variety of research methods and approaches within the field. A core focus of the topic is a philosophy of inclusion and its associated practices in and implications for contemporary schools and service settings.
This topic examines inclusive teaching practices to support diverse children and young people within the same classroom. Teachers and allied health professionals will learn pedagogies that facilitate supporting children and young people with a diverse range of academic abilities and performance.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Explicit Instruction (EI), and Differentiated Instruction (DI) will be taught as Tier 1 intervention methods. A focus on push-in class support will introduce Systematic Instruction (SI) as an instructional method for children and young people who need additional support within the classroom.
The overarching framework for these instructional methods will be housed under an academic Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS).
Participants that successfully complete this micro-credential will receive credit equivalent to half (9 units) of the Graduate Certificate in Student Inclusion.
Flinders University offers staggered opportunities to upskill. Finish two topics and you will receive this micro-credential. Finish another two topics, and you will receive a Graduate Certificate in Student Inclusion. Complete a further 12 topics in addition to those, and you will be awarded a Master of Inclusive & Specialised Education.
Participants of the microcredential will be required to adequately demonstrate the learning outcomes through a series of assessment tasks.
1. Justify a critical understanding of inclusion, informed by current research, legislation, and international treaties
2. Synthesise knowledge of inclusive education practices to be applied in diverse contexts
3. Analyse and apply key philosophies, principles and practices of inclusive education to meet diverse student needs
4. Investigate own practices and identify opportunities to apply inclusive approaches to enhance quality of learning and engagement for all students.
