"I decided to choose this path as I love and adore children. I have always been interested in how they learn and develop across their lifespan.

The Bedford Park campus has a lot of greenery, especially where the Education building is located on the hill. It makes me happy being close to nature, surrounded by trees, a lake, birds, ducks, and a clear, blue sky."

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Special Needs) and Bachelor of Disability Studies, Malaysia

"The Flinders location sets itself apart from other universities in Adelaide – I love the greenery of the campus and the student support services offered by the University.

Flinders University offers many different support services to international students in developing their English language skills, financial help, counselling, and student wellbeing in transitioning into a new study environment."

Applications

As an international high school student what do I study and where? keyboard_arrow_up

Flinders accept the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and the International Baccalaureate (IB) from Australian high school studies (onshore or offshore) as entry into our undergraduate degrees.

Flinders is a comprehensive university, teaching all major study areas. Please see our full list of degrees here.

We also have three campuses in South Australia – Bedford Park, our main campus, Tonsley which is home to our Engineering and Information Technology courses and is known as an innovation hub, sitting alongside globally recognised organisations, and the Flinders City Campus which is a cutting edge, vertical campus that offers a new way of learning in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD.

How do I apply? keyboard_arrow_up

You can apply online directly to Flinders International on your own or through a Flinders registered agent and receive a conditional offer.

Or you can make the application online through the year 12 South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) application round and portal. You must select that you are an ‘International Year 12 High School Student’. As an international applicant you are required to supply additional application information when applying through the year 12 SATAC portal such as passport details and country of birth.

Please note: you cannot apply directly to Flinders and also through SATAC concurrently. If this happens, we will cancel your direct application and continue with your SATAC application.

When can I apply? keyboard_arrow_up

In August the undergraduate International Year 12 SATAC applications open and key dates are frequently updated on the SATAC UG key dates website.

There are two admissions cycles for undergraduate degrees:

  • February intake (semester 1): applications open in August for commencement the following year. All courses are open for applications.
  • Mid-year July intake (semester 2): applications open in August for commencement in July the following year. Not all courses are offered.

It is highly recommended you apply online directly to Flinders International before August to reserve a place in the following courses:

  • Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine
  • Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) / Master of Optometry

These courses are available through SATAC, however, places are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How many preferences can I have in my application with SATAC? keyboard_arrow_up

You can make six application preferences through SATAC, and if eligible you will receive offers for all six preferences.

Are there additional entry requirements for some courses? keyboard_arrow_up

In some courses other criteria, such as subject pre-requisites, an interview, audition or portfolio submission also apply. For information on such course requirements, see course information in the SATAC Guide,  course information pages and entry requirements.

How can I link my Agent to my SATAC application? keyboard_arrow_up

If you have an agent, you can list your agent on your application from the SATAC drop down list (or a free text option is available). Alternatively you can proceed without selecting an agent and contact Flinders International to advise of your agent and to link them to your application.

How do I apply for Medicine? keyboard_arrow_up

Apply online directly to Flinders International before August with predicted scores from your high school for the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine (BCS/MD). Applications for this course cannot be made through SATAC. The BCS/MD does not require the International Student Admissions Test (ISAT) for application or entry. Shortlisting will be based on your predicted or final high school scores and offers will be based on your academic outcomes.

When is the main SATAC offer round? keyboard_arrow_up

Please visit the SATC website for key dates.

When do I receive my offer letter? keyboard_arrow_up

You can receive one conditional offer from Flinders International at anytime if you have applied directly to the University. In August, once you have applied through SATAC, you will receive a conditional offer for your highest Flinders preference, and application acknowledgments from SATAC for all of your six preferences.

In December, when you receive your final ATAR score you will receive offers from SATAC and, if you have applied directly to Flinders International, you will receive an unconditional offer or confirmation that you have met your condition, and details on how to accept your offer.

What curriculum does Flinders accept? keyboard_arrow_up

Each state in Australia has their own school curriculum e.g. South Australia is SACE and Flinders accept all curriculums. Application and offer dates may differ for each curriculum.

Are all courses available to apply through the SATAC year 12 application portal? keyboard_arrow_up

No, the following courses are not available to apply through the SATAC year 12 application portal and will need to be submitted online directly to Flinders International. It is recommended that you apply early with predicted results from your high school to reserve a place.

  • Bachelor of Clinical Science / Doctor of Medicine
  • Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) / Master of Optometry
  • Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama)
  • Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing)

  • Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design)
  • Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) (Honours)

Under 18

Can I still apply to study at University if I am under 18? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, if you are under 18 you can still apply and receive an offer if you are eligible. However, we will require additional welfare and accommodation documentation at the acceptance stage.

English

How do I meet the English condition? keyboard_arrow_up

Your Australian year 12 studies will meet English language requirements for all degrees other than Bachelor of Nursing. There are also some slight variations to this should you be studying offshore.

To meet the Bachelor of Nursing (Pre-Registration) and Bachelor of Midwifery (Pre-Registration) English language requirements, you must provide sufficient English language test results or you have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, Canada, Ireland, UK), including at least two years between years 7 and 12, as per the Australian nursing registration requirements and the Nursing and Midwifery Board registration standards.

How do I meet English if I studied an Australian year 12 qualification offshore? keyboard_arrow_up

Flinders International accept applications and ATAR scores from students who have successfully completed Australian year 12 qualifications delivered offshore (a country other than Australia). Your English subject and grade can be taken into consideration in your application.

Admissions

Do I need to complete a Genuine Student assessment? keyboard_arrow_up

The Australian Government requires all students to be a Genuine Student when studying on a student visa in Australia. Our admissions team may ask for further documents if required during the application stage.

The following courses are not deferrable:

  • Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science)/Master of Optometry
  • Bachelor of Midwifery (Pre-Registration)
  • Bachelor of Speech Pathology
  • Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine

Visas

Who is considered an international student? keyboard_arrow_up

An international high school student is anyone who is not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (PR) and is studying high school in Australia or an Australian curriculum overseas.

What if I am applying for Permanent Residency (PR)? keyboard_arrow_up

If you receive PR throughout the application process, you may be able to change to being classified as a domestic student. If you accept your offer and make payment before you receive PR, you will proceed as an international student. During your studies if you receive PR you should contact Fees at Flinders to advise of the change of visa status and provide your visa grant letter. Fees will assist with the steps involved and associated financial adjustments where possible.

What if I am on another visa? keyboard_arrow_up

If you are on a bridging visa, temporary resident visa or parents temporary partner visa you are still considered an international student. You do not need to arrange OSHC and will not receive eCOE as these are applicable only to student visa holders.

Can I study online? keyboard_arrow_up

As an international student visa holder you cannot enrol in more than 30% of your course online. Online courses and courses with online/external delivery mode are not available to International students.

Pathways

What if I do not get my required ATAR score? keyboard_arrow_up

Flinders University Academy and Flinders University will automatically offer you a packaged foundation or diploma pathway offer.

Are there alternative pathway courses? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, you can receive an alternative offer/pathway offer. You may receive an offer for a course that was not your chosen course because you did not meet the entry ATAR score requirement or pre-requisite subject requirements. This can be a pathway into your chosen course. During your study you may be able to change or transfer to your preferred course after a semester or year, depending on the course, intake availability and if the course tertiary transfer Grade Point Average (GPA) has been met.

Adjustment factors

Can I receive adjustment factors? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, all international students have access to and can receive adjustment factors and bonus points to increase your ATAR score.

  • Selection By Grades will be automatically considered by Flinders International and you do not need to submit a separate request.
  • UniTEST is unique to Flinders. UniTEST can enhance your ATAR through 60% ATAR weighting and 40% uniTEST weighting. If the uniTEST does not improve your ATAR this will be disregarded and just your ATAR will be used and automatically calculated through the SATAC application.
  • Research Project B Pathway and the Language, literacy and mathematics bonus scheme can increase your ATAR and will be automatically calculated through the SATAC application.
  • Equity Scheme bonus points are automatically calculated in the SATAC application and are based on the high school you attended and your high school geographical location.

Scholarships

Are scholarships available to international students? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes, international students will be automatically considered for an academic merit Flinders International student scholarship based on your ATAR score.

Fees

What are my fees as an international student? keyboard_arrow_up

Semester, yearly and overall course fees will differ for international students compared to domestic students. International students do not have access to the Commonwealth supported HECS-HELP loan, which is only available for Australian citizens.

Do you have on campus accommodation? keyboard_arrow_up

Adelaide has many accommodation options for international students. You can choose to live on campus, at our city accommodation provider The Switch, or in rental accommodation. To find out more visit our accommodation page here.
