About us

Point-of-care testing (POCT) is one of the fastest growing sectors of the diagnostic pathology industry. The global market value is expected to reach $18 billion by 2016 and $24 billion by 2017/2018.

We strive to be a global leader and advocate for point-of-care testing research, teaching and innovation, and to work collaboratively to improve health care and health outcomes in communities worldwide.

Our Aims

Working collaboratively with national and  international partners, the Centre aims to:

  • translate the national research and teaching expertise in the field of community-based POCT to other national and international audiences, and as a result,
  • build the capacity of rural and remote communities globally (particularly Indigenous communities) to develop and sustain innovative, quality-assured POCT solutions to improve both health service delivery and patient outcomes in their communities.

Our Values

  • We pursue excellence in everything we do. Our Centre’s activities are underpinned by quality frameworks and founded on the latest evidence and best practice guidelines.
  • Health equity is important to us. We seek to improve access to health care around the world by partnering with communities, universities and professional organisations to share knowledge and implement point-of-care testing in field programs where alternative testing resources are limited or impractical.
  • We are caring and culturally sensitive; our focus is on partnering with local health professionals and communities to build and sustain point-of-care testing capacity to improve health outcomes.
  • We value innovation and work to expand the applications of point-of-care testing in new areas of health care
  • We are research focussed and work to advance and share evidence-based knowledge in all areas of point-of-care testing.
