World Organization of Family Doctors

WONCA is the World Organization of Family Doctors representing over 400,000 family doctors from 126 member organisations in 102 countries.

WONCA’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the world’s peoples by fostering high standards of care in general practice/family medicine.

Our Centre has been appointed as the Secretariat for the WONCA Special Interest Group on Global Point-of-Care Testing, which was launched in 2013. Its aims are to:

  • Provide family doctors from all countries with an education, training and research forum to enable the practice of POCT to be integrated safely and sustainably into family medicine for the clinical benefit of patients under their care; and
  • Provide a primary point of leadership, advocacy, opportunity and knowledge exchange for the practice of POCT in family medicine.

Survey of family doctors - March 2014

A short online survey on point-of-care testing has been developed by the SIG. The purpose of this survey is to obtain a wide understanding of the clinical use, availability, needs, advantages, and limitations or barriers to the implementation of point-of-care testing across all WONCA regions of the world.

This information will inform the Special Interest Group on priorities for education and research. We welcome responses from all family doctors and health professional staff with an interest in point-of-care testing.
