Offered in collaboration with TAFE SA* through Adelaide College of the Arts, this degree will equip you with elite professional dance skills and theoretical knowledge. You will cover areas such as dance technique, devised movement practices, dance project realisation, choreography and stage performance, and emerge with all the makings of a successful professional dancer.

Choreographers design and direct movement routines for performances such as dance shows, music videos, theatre or film. They develop sequences that reflect emotion, theme or story and work closely with dancers to refine technique and expression. Creativity and strong leadership are key to success in this role.
Dance teachers instruct students in various dance styles from ballet to hip-hop. They develop lesson plans, teach technique and choreography, and prepare students for performances or exams. Working in schools*, studios or independently they inspire confidence, discipline and a love for movement.

Dance is a physically demanding job requiring you to use your creative and technical skills to express ideas through movement. You’ll most likely specialise in a particular style of dance, such as jazz, ballet, modern, tap or ballroom, or you may have expertise in multiple areas.
Love to entertain others? Cabaret artists entertain audiences with performances that can span dance, music, drama, song - or a combination of all! You can collaborate with other dancers and producers, or even create your own ideas for a show.
Community dance is a participatory dance activity that is all about inclusivity and working with people. Community dance artists can work in a range of settings and are often self-financing, but can also receive grants from funding organisations.

Peter Sheedy
Peter’s professional career commenced in Canberra at Human Veins Dance Theatre. He then spent the next twenty years performing and collaborating in leading contemporary dance companies including Dance North, Australian Dance Theatre, Chrissie Parrott Dance Company, Taipei Crossover and Leigh Warren and Dancers.
In that time, he has worked with choreographers/directors such as Graeme Watson, Nanette Hassel, Douglas Wright, Jean-Pierre Perreault and Per Jonsson and has performed lead roles in Glen Tetley’s “Pierrot Lunaire” and William Forsythe’s “Enemy in the Figure”.
Peter has taught extensively in contemporary dance studies and received choreographic grants from ARTSA and the Australia Council.

Strong results in your Research Project B subject along with your Year 12 results can be considered for entry.
By using three of your best Year 12 grades, you can also gain a place in your course of choice.
Your school’s recommendation about your academic performance may be considered as part of your admission.
If you’re studying at another university, you may be able to transfer to Flinders based on your Yr 12 results, current GPA or other factors.
Even if you didn’t finish high school (Year 12), you may be able to study at Flinders through your TAFE/VET qualification.
You may be able to complete a TAFE SA course and have guaranteed entry into Flinders.
The TAFE/VET stud you’ve already done may be able to be used as credit towards a Flinders’ course.
The Foundation Studies Program is free and guarantees entry to a range of degrees.
The STAT is a 2-hour multiple choice test that assesses your abilities.
If you completed Year 12 more than two years ago you can still use your results to apply.

You don’t need a degree to become a dancer. However, earning a degree in dance can significantly enrich your journey. It provides structured opportunities to develop your skills, experiment with different styles, receive mentorship from experienced dance professionals, and gain experience.
