The Honours year provides advanced clinical and research experience alongside professional preparation, supporting deeper engagement with evidence-based practice and eligibility for future research pathways.
The Bachelor of Speech Pathology and Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) have been designed to meet the competency standards of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA), the national accrediting body for the profession, enabling graduates to practise in Australia and many other countries around the world, including the UK and parts of Asia (subject to accreditation).
The Master of Speech Pathology offers an advanced pathway into professional practice and specialist clinical skills.
An embedded Honours pathway is available in the final stages of the degree, providing advanced research experience alongside clinical practice.

Her passion is in using interactive and interprofessional learning opportunities to nurture students' personal and professional growth such that, as graduates, they are holistic, person-centred and work-ready.

Catherine Linnett-Young
Catherine is a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Educator with over 35 years' experience as a paediatric speech pathologist (specialising in working in early childhood and family teams with families with high levels of vulnerability, social disadvantage and trauma). She brings real-world, relational insights to her teaching, focusing on trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family and student-centred practice. Catherine is also training in Psychodrama through AANZPA.

Tim Kittel
After graduating from Flinders, Tim has worked across a number of different settings across SA and spent five years in the UK, working with students and adolescents with Developmental Language Disorder. Tim was elected to the Board of Directors at Speech Pathology Australia, serving as President from 2019-2023. Tim's clinical interest lies in communication disorders across autism and adolescence, and the links between narrative ability and independence.
You’ll complete practical placements across a range of settings, working with clients across the lifespan and developing skills in communication and swallowing assessment and intervention.
You’ll also engage in interprofessional learning opportunities, working with students across allied health disciplines to reflect how teams collaborate in real clinical and non-clinical environments.
To complete this degree, students will need to fulfil placement requirements to undertake compulsory field placements. Placements are provided in a range of settings including childcare centres, state and independent schools, disability services, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community health centres and aged care facilities. In third year, students will typically undertake two placements of one to two days per week throughout the semester. In fourth year, students will typically undertake two block placements of six to eight weeks. These may be undertaken in Adelaide, regional areas of South Australia and the Northern Territory and, in some circumstances, overseas.

Strong results in your AIF subject along with your Year 12 results can be considered for entry.
By using three of your best Year 12 grades, you can also gain a place in your course of choice.
Your school’s recommendation about your academic performance may be considered as part of your admission.
If you’re studying at another university, you may be able to transfer to Flinders based on your Yr 12 results, current GPA or other factors.
Even if you didn’t finish high school (Year 12), you may be able to study at Flinders through your TAFE/VET qualification.
You may be able to complete a TAFE SA course and have guaranteed entry into Flinders.
The TAFE/VET stud you’ve already done may be able to be used as credit towards a Flinders’ course.
The Foundation Studies Program is free and guarantees entry to a range of degrees.
The STAT is a 2-hour multiple choice test that assesses your abilities.

Increase your chances of studying at Flinders as a rural and remote resident.
An annual sub quota is available for applicants from rural and remote areas. To be considered for the rural and remote subquota you must submit a Statutory Declaration to SATAC within 10 working days of your application confirming you’ve lived in a non-metropolitan area of Australia (Remoteness Classifications RA2–RA5) for:
* At least 5 consecutive years, or
* 10 cumulative years, from birth (i.e. during any period of your life)
Eligibility is based on your primary residential address.
Applicants can check their eligibility in accordance with the definition above using the Australian Government's Health Workforce Locator. Enter the address you wish to search for using the 'ASGS Remoteness Area' '2021'. As part of a transition year for 2026 entry, applicants can also be assessed against the ‘ASGS Remoteness Area’ ‘2016’ if not eligible under the 2021 layer. For 2027 entry, applicants will only be assessed using the 'ASGS Remoteness Area' '2021' layer.

An annual sub quota is available for applicants from the Northern Terroitory (NT). To be considered for the NT subquota you must submit a Statutory Declaration to SATAC within 10 working days of your application, confirming you meet one of the following criteria:
If you are offered a place through the NT sub-quota, you will be required to complete your final-year clinical placements in the Northern Territory. You will also be registered with the Flinders NT University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) as a student eligible for rural background support funding. Further details will be provided upon enrolment.
Successful applicants who meet the entry requirements for both the NT subquota places and the non-subquota places will be offered the option of undertaking clinical placements in the NT.
If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through Flinders University Academy – or our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers.
This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.

Yes. As a student visa (subclass 500) holder, you and your dependents (family members) can work up to 48 hours a fortnight when your course of study is in session.
