Flinders civil engineering is a comprehensive degree covering the four main civil engineering themes of structures, transport, water and geomechanics, bringing them together to create innovative infrastructure design and construction solutions.

What you will study

First year A typical first year may include:	studying with student engineers of all disciplines and completing core topics in electronics, professional skills, engineering design, engineering programming, engineering physics and materials, engineering mechanics, and mathematics a common first year between all Flinders Bachelor of Engineering degrees means students can change specialisations without losing time at the end of first year.
Second year A typical second year may include:	focussing on civil engineering with core topics in mechanics and structures, fluid mechanics, infrastructure systems engineering, civil engineering design, engineering geology and geomechanics, structural engineering, engineering mathematics, and geographical information systems.
Third year A typical third year may include:	topics in engineering project management together with studies that look at working as a professional engineer a complete semester in industry with our national best-practice 20-week industry placement.
Honours year A typical honours year may include:	a return to Tonsley to complete a major civil engineering honours thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research topics in advanced civil engineering design, and standards, ethics and compliance design of a major piece of infrastructure a selection of electives in allied science and engineering areas.

You'll have the opportunity to undertake a 20-week industry placement as part of your degree. One of the longest work placements offered in Australia, it enables you to work alongside professional engineers tackling real-world problems.

If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers.
