What media and communications jobs are there? keyboard_arrow_up

A career in media and communication is one of the most diverse and ever-changing landscapes you can enter. Gone are the days of traditional media being limited to television and newspapers. You could work in digital media, video production, radio, podcasting, public relations, journalism or social media - just to name a few.

You'll creatively communicate and translate ideas and messages to the public, and you could find yourself working for private enterprise, tourism and events, marketing, media agencies, advertising companies, creative agencies, or government.

Is journalism a good career? keyboard_arrow_up

Absolutely. You might see headlines about journalism being a 'dying career', but the truth is, journalism has evolved over time and now takes many different forms. Today, journalists commonly work as podcasters, on social media, or for traditional formats (yes, magazine, newspaper and radio jobs still exist).

Do you need experience to be a social media manager? keyboard_arrow_up

We highly recommend that you pursue opportunities to gain experience before applying for social media manager roles. The good news is, this is built-in to our Media and Communication degree! You will enjoy gaining hands-on experience in social media (especially if you select a specialisation in Social Media and Digital Content), and can also experience internships and placements.

Are public relations jobs in demand? keyboard_arrow_up

Yes. In Australia, the annual employment growth for Public Relations Professionals was 1,000 over the last year*.
