What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

studying with student engineers of all disciplines and completing core topics in electronics, professional skills, engineering design, engineering programming, engineering physics and materials, engineering mechanics, and mathematics

commonality in the first year that means you can transfer between disciplines easily at the end of the year.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

core topics in electrical circuits and machines, engineering mathematics, analysis of engineering systems, electronic circuits, sensors and actuators, and computer programming.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

core topics in automation and industrial control, communication systems, computer organisation and design, control systems, dynamics, electromagnetics and systems engineering

Fourth year

A fourth year may include:

core topics in autonomous systems, computer vision, signal processing and robotics systems
topics in engineering project management together with studies that look at working as a professional engineer
a 20-week industry placement.

Fifth year

A fourth year may include:

a major robotics, electrical and electronic engineering honours thesis allowing high-performing students to progress to a higher degree by research
a selection of electives in electrical and electronic engineering.

You'll have the opportunity to undertake a 20-week industry placement as part of your degree. One of the longest work placements offered in Australia, it enables you to work alongside professional engineers tackling real-world problems.
