A nutritionist integrates and applies knowledge from relevant sciences to enhance the positive effects of food on health and well-being. They plan diets, provide nutrition assessments, and educate individuals and communities on the importance of diet and food preparation.
A nutritionist may also choose to specialise in research, teaching and/or influencing health policy.

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) is a one-year full time (or two-years part time) program designed to extend your research skills, critical analysis, and project management.
This program allows you to specialise in a health discipline of your choice, such as nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, optometry, nutrition, disability, or exercise and sport science. You'll work closely with experienced researchers on projects that aim to contribute to health practices and systems.
Honours study focuses on developing your research, communication, and presentation skills, preparing you for a career in health further academic pursuits.

Undertake a 140-hour self-directed placement with industry or co-create a project in an area of your choice. You’ll have the chance to volunteer at nutrition events, contribute to industry projects, or gain hands-on experience within the University. Throughout your studies, you’ll solve real nutrition challenges, learn from guest lecturers working in the field, and develop projects with practical, real-world applications.
Professional experience placements such as the self-directed placement, NUTD3110 Independent Studies in Nutrition (ISP), are designed to meet your learning needs and to provide you with the opportunity to develop and apply 21st century skills identified by industry for today’s graduates. Placements also enable you to develop the skills and knowledge required to meet the potential competency standards of the Nutrition Society of Australia for Registered Nutritionists in Australia.
There are opportunities to take the third-year self-directed placement topic overseas. Students are also eligible to apply for study abroad for a semester with universities whose topics are recognised by Flinders University.

If you’re in Year 12, taking the free uniTEST can help boost your chances of getting into Flinders.
Strong results in your Research Project B subject along with your Year 12 results can be considered for entry.
By using three of your best Year 12 grades, you can also gain a place in your course of choice.

If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through Flinders University Academy – or our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers.
This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
If you don’t meet our academic entry requirements, you can still gain entry to Flinders University through Flinders University Academy. With a range of diplomas, foundation and English language courses, students can find a direct pathway into the destination degree of their choice.

Yes. According to the National Skills Commission (2021 employment growth projections for the next five years to 2026), employment growth for Nutrition professionals is 7.2%.
A nutritionist may be a tertiary qualified nutrition professional with the expertise to provide a range of evidence-based services related to nutrition, public health nutrition, policy and research, and community health.
Similarly, dietitians are qualified to provide evidence-based nutrition services. However, they also have the expertise to provide individual dietary counselling, medical nutrition therapy, group dietary therapy, and food service management.
If you complete the Bachelor of Human Nutrition with a Dietetics minor, you'll meet the requirements to apply for the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, providing your GPA is above 5.
Whilst there isn't an accrediting body per se, graduates are eligible for registration as a Nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of Australia. For more information, visit NSA
