Rather than looking at comparative religion, the degree investigates Christian traditions, texts and practice through study in fields such as biblical studies, historic and systematic theology and ministry studies. It examines theology alongside issues critical to contemporary society and culture, and can include a major in a related field.

What you will study

First year

A typical first year may include:

introductory learning through core biblical studies topics including interpreting the Old and New Testament, and synoptic studies
a core historical and systematic theology topic on church history
historical studies and systematic theology topics in Christian thought, Humanity and God, and church history
ministry studies topics such as reading cultures, and introductions to pastoral care and Christian leadership
a choice of topics from related disciplines.

Second year

A typical second year may include:

intermediate learning through core topics such as the theology of Jesus Christ and church history
historical and systematic theology, biblical studies and/or ministry studies options topics
a choice of topics from related disciplines, including Biblical Greek or Biblical Hebrew.

Third year

A typical third year may include:

advanced learning through a core topic in biblical hermeneutics
additional topics in biblical studies and historical and systematic theology or ministry studies.

If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through Flinders University Academy – or our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers.

This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
